Montgomery County replaced a sheriff's office building that opened in the 1890s.
MOUNT VERNON, GA (WTOC) -
Deputies and other staff at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office have a new home to begin 2013. They moved into a new headquarters this week and moved out of a building that served more than a century.
The original sheriff's office building opened in the 1890s and resembled a house from the outside. It contained offices on the ground floor and jail cells upstairs. As the building aged, the sheriff's office closed the jail operations and housed prisoners elsewhere.
The new building includes office space for 13 deputies and staff, modern interview rooms and holding cells.
