Fireworks stand in South Carolina raises money for local fire department

LEVY, SC (WTOC) -

The New Year is almost here, which means there are lots of fireworks for sale in South Carolina on Saturday.

Volunteers at the fireworks stand right across the Talmadge Bridge on Highway 17 in Levy say that business is a little slower than they had hoped.

The stand is hoping that business will pick up because the money raised goes to a very worthy cause.

"We do this for the Levy Volunteer Fire Department," said Krystal Saxon, one of the volunteers working the stand this year.

"All proceeds go to our fire department. We're all volunteers down here and we work really hard at it on [January] 1st and the 4th of July. We're hoping people will come out and support us."

Bottle rockets, roman candles and fire crackers are all illegal to use in the state of Georgia.
