SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah hosted its first ever Peanut Butter and Jelly run on Hutchinson Island Saturday afternoon.

All participants were asked to bring the sandwich materials to the event, which would then be donated to the Savannah Christian food pantry called the Lighthouse Ministry.

The ministry is expected to help feed more than 400 families in December and these particular food items are a necessity.

Saturday's run is the kick-off event to the "Alive in Savannah Extreme Fitness Challenge", which continues through Monday, December 31st.

"Alive in Savannah is all about inspiring people into the new year," said Alive in Savannah Event Director Dan Pavlin.

"We have all kinds of activities for the kids. New Year's Eve, we're going to have fireworks, a hay ride and the animal safari out here, too."

The New Year's Eve event will be fun for the whole family, and the grand finale for the Festival of Lights.
