Tens of thousands of New Year's Eve revelers and football fans are expected to pack downtown Atlanta Monday.
The 24th Annual Peach Drop will take place at the Plaza atop Underground Atlanta, and the Chick-fil-A bowl takes place at the Georgia Dome. It's the "Battle of the Tigers" as the Clemson Tigers take on the LSU Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Clemson fan Phil Burgess was one of several dozen who had already parked their RVs in a lot near the Georgia Dome by early Monday morning. He said there's one way to ensure that this New Year will be among the best ever.
"A big Clemson win. You couldn't ask for anything better," said Burgess.
LSU fan Shani Matkins set up her family's RV Saturday, two days in advance of the bowl game.
"We're hoping that the (LSU) Tigers will come to play and beat up on the Clemson Tigers and we'll go home with a final victory for the year," she said.
Several activities are planned leading up to the main event of the Peach Drop, including games for the kids, an area dedicated to sports lovers, and performances by dozens of talent musicians. The headliner is Abbey Road LIVE! which is widely recognized as one the most exciting Beatles tribute bands around.
Last year, roughly 100,000 people attended Peach Drop activities. The capacity at the Georgia Dome during football games is 71,200. Attendees are urged to take MARTA.
Both events will have plenty of security. Burgess, the Clemson fan, said he's not too worried about that at the Georgia Dome.
"The city of Atlanta has really done a lot in this area to make you feel more secure," he said. "I remember several years ago, it wasn't like this. I think the World Congress Center investing a lot of money, they have spent a lot of money here to improve these facilities. And it's just great."
