Folks shop for traditional New Year's Day food

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

There were long lines at the Red and White Monday as customers loaded up on collard greens, black eyed peas and all the fixings for a big New Year's Day meal. Tradition says eating these foods can bring good luck and prosperity in the new year. One shopper said she couldn't imagine kicking off 2013 any other way.

"It is like a tradition from childhood, therefore it is something you just keep on doing over and over every year. It is just tradition," said Mary Gibson, Savannah.
