A 6-year-old boy is in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle Monday night.
The Effingham County Sheriff's Office says the boy and his mother were at the Parker's gas station on Highway 21 at Goshen Rd. in Rincon when the boy ran into the street. He was then struck by a vehicle that then drove away.
"He has some head injuries, several lacerations and you know luckily he's alive right now. But, we're trying to determine who exactly was involved in this hit and run and we've talked to some witnesses so hopefully we'll come up with who did this." said David Ehsanipoor, ECSO Public Information Officer.
Witnesses describe the vehicle that hit the child as a white Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban, with the letters B-K-Y in the license plate.
The boy was taken to Memorial Health and is expected to be ok.
