Beaufort Co. to elect new Chairman, Vice-Chairman

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

New lawmakers will be elected Wednesday in the Lowcountry.

Beaufort County council members are set to pick a new Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the County Council. They will nominate and elect the chairman who will take over for Weston Newton.

Newton stepped down earlier last month after being elected to the State House of Representatives. His replacement will take the seat Newton held since 2002.

The council will also swear in a number of positions of those elected in November.

The swearing in ceremony and election will begin at 10 a.m. in Council Chambers in Beaufort.
