Hundreds braved the cold waters for the 5th annual Pelican Plunge at the Hunting Island Lighthouse Beach on Tuesday. Plungers and their cheering sections gathered along the beach for a costume parade, simon sez and kazoo songs. The event benefits Discover Carolina State Parks programs.
"Number one goal is to have fun," said Jeff Atkins, program coordinator. "There is nothing more. The benefit of all those folks coming together and doing this worth while fundraiser is the kids get to benefit from it as well."
More than $4,000 was raised by Hunting Island State Park, who hosted the event with the help of the Friends of Hunting Island.
