81-year-old man crashes plane into car, airport hangar

ATHENS, GA (AP) -

Police say no one was injured when an airplane crashed into a car and hangar at the Athens-Ben Epps Airport.

According to reports, 81-year-old James Box lost control of his home-built airplane as it taxied near the hangar Monday.

Police say Box recently installed a new, more powerful engine on his home-built plane and the brakes weren't enough to stop the aircraft. Police say the elderly aviator was unable to stop his plane and one of its wings shaved off the roof of a nearby Honda Insight. Authorities say the plane also ran into a county-owned hangar and was severely damaged.

Police do not expect to file charges against Box.
