U.S. Rep. Tim Scott to be sworn in as U.S. Senator.
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
U.S. Rep. Tim Scott
will be sworn Wednesday in as South Carolina's new U.S. senator replacing Jim DeMint.
Gov. Nikki Haley
appointed Scott who currently represents some of the Lowcountry to replace DeMint
who resigned last month. DeMint is going on to be president of the Heritage Foundation
- a conservative think tank in Washington D.C.
Primaries for Scott's open U.S. House seat will be
held in March, with the election for the seat in May.
Filing is set to begin Jan. 18 and more than a dozen people
have expressed interest, including former Gov. Mark Sanford and his ex-wife Jenny
Sanford.
