Show goats attacked by pack of dogs

WAYNE CO., GA (WTOC) -

A mother and her daughters in Odum, Ga., are grieving the death of one of their prized show goats.

They say their goats were attacked by a pack of pit bulls Wednesday morning off of Whippoorwill Road.

One of the goats named Coconut was killed and another was injured and received stitches.

"These are like our pets. They mean so much to us and we've brought them up since they were born. We are devastated," Becky Conti said.

Conti said she heard the goats making strange noises in the morning. When she went outside, she found the pit bulls in their pen.

"We aren't sure how they got in. They must have jumped up on a trash can," Conti said.

She said she lured the dogs out of the pen and called the sheriff's office. Deputies took the dogs to animal control. So far, no one was claimed them.

Conti said they will put barbed wire around the goat pen to make sure no other intruders get inside.

She said this is not their first run in with wild dogs, but up until now they haven't killed anything.
