Metro police are on the scene of an attempted car theft at a Savannah car dealership.
Police say two suspects broke into the repair shop building at Critz Auto Group on Stephenson Ave. and Habersham St. shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday. The suspects apparently stole keys and tried to get away with a car.
A Metro police officer caught the suspects in the act and tried to stop them. The two quickly took off and crashed through a gate while trying to escape. They then jumped out and ran into nearby woods. Both of the suspects were caught after a brief chase and taken into custody. A police dog was used to flush at least one of them out of the woods.
Around the same time, an officer had to be taken to the hospital. It is not known what type of injury the officer has or if it is in any way related to the attempted car theft, but, the officer was in the area of the attempted theft when it happened.
