Some very talented U.S. military
high-flyers bring home the gold. The
Army's Golden Knights 8-Way Formation-Flying Team won first place last month at
the 2012 World Parachuting Championships held in Dubai, United Arab
Emirates. The Army sky-diving team
edged-out France to take the gold medal.
Exiting an aircraft two-miles above the earth, the 8-team- members must
execute as many formations as possible within 50-seconds, free-falling at over 100 miles per hour!
While the men's unit has a
distinguished 53-year history, the Lady Knights 4-Way Formation Team, was established
just two-years ago, and came on strong to win the Silver Medal in their class,
a tremendous showing for such a young team.
Both Golden Knight squads are the Defense Department's only formal parachute demonstration teams. In all, the men and lady Knights brought home a total of 14 medals from this world championship event, more than any other country. Just one more reason to be extremely proud of the historic achievements made by our Army, our military, and our nation.
