RINCON, GA (WTOC) -

A Rincon police officer and veteran will be laid to rest this weekend after losing his battle with stage four colon cancer.

Fellow officers say the community really came together to show their support for Cpl. Dennis Badger, a man who touched so many lives. In November, more than 100 motorcyclists participated in a ride and raised $16,000 for badger and his family.

"We are going to do that ride annually in his honor to carry on his name and assist other families who are fighting some sort of cancer," said Sgt. Jose Ramirez.

"In the time he worked with us, he worked without complaint and without missing any days. Whenever his guys called, he was there for them," said Rincon Police Chief Phillip Scholl. "He was a friend and great supervisor for them."

Badger's viewing will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Both will take place at the Rincon First Baptist Church.

The burial will be at the Effingham Memorial Gardens.
