Soldier promoted to brigadier general during ceremony

HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -
John Hort was promoted to from colonel to brigadier general during a ceremony at Fort Stewart Friday morning. Maj. Gen. Robert "Abe" Abrams, Third Infantry Division commanding general, administered the oath via video from Afghanistan.
Brig. Gen. Hort has served in a variety of command and leadership positions during his 27 years in the military. He says he is honored to take on the new responsibilities of a general officer.
"I believe through this increased level of responsibility, it will be my job now to do everything I can to take care of all those soldiers and families out there who work not just at Fort Stewart but Hunter Army Airfield and over at Fort Benning as well," said Brig. Gen. Hort.
Brig. Gen. Hort most recently served as an infantry brigade commander at Fort Carson, Colorado, where he deployed his brigade from 2007 to 2009 to East Baghdad, Iraq.
