Donate new blanket; get free Starbucks

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Senior Citizens Inc.'s annual blanket drive kicked off Monday and runs until Jan. 31.

The non-profit organization is teaming up with Starbucks as part of the donation drive. Anyone who donates a new blanket at Starbucks or Senior Citizens Inc. in January will get a coupon for a free tall coffee from Starbucks.

The blanket drive kick-off took place from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday at the Starbucks at 1 E. Broughton St.

Donations of new blankets are being accepted at these Starbucks Coffee locations until Jan. 31:

  • 49 E. Montgomery Crossroads
  • 2106 E. Victory Dr.
  • 1 E. Broughton St.
  • 5500 Abercorn St. (Twelve Oaks Shopping Center)
  • 7804 Abercorn St. (Oglethorpe Mall)

Blankets and monetary donations are also being collected at Senior Citizens Inc. headquarters at 3025 Bull St. and at WSAV-TV at 1430 East Victory Dr.

Senior Citizens Inc. has received a $3,500 donation from Georgia Natural Gas. The funds will be used toward the purchase of new blankets. Willis Insurance Group and Certus Bank have partnered with Senior Citizens Inc. to provide blankets to homebound seniors who do not have adequate means of heating their homes. 

To get a free a blanket, senior citizens must be 65 or older and have a low income. Seniors wishing to apply for a free blanket can go to 3025 Bull St. and provide a photo ID.
