A Statesboro man who was driving the wrong way on Interstate 95 last week has died of his injuries.
Savannah-Chatham Metro Police said Virgil Hicks, 83, died Sunday at Memorial University Medical Center.
Hicks was driving southbound in a 2007 Buick Lucerne in the emergency lane of I-95 northbound with his wife Mary Hicks, when he collided at about 11:54 a.m. Thursday with a Honda Pilot driven by 41-year-old Sarah Miller, of Boone, N.C.
Hicks tried to turn left across traffic onto the exit ramp when the collision occurred, according to police.
Also in the SUV were: Vachel Miller, 43, Galen Miller, 10, Caspian Miller, 6, and Sidra Miller, 8, all of Boone, NC.
Hicks was in critical condition. Galen Miller was in serious condition. Miller and Mary Hicks were listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. The others were treated for their injuries and released.
