BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -
The American Red Cross and Bluffton's mayor will be awarding a
Lowcountry man with the Lifesaving Certificate of Merit on Tuesday in Bluffton.
Frank
Szczepanik is being recognized for using CPR to save an infant's life in July.
He CPR learned through the Red Cross Health and Safety Services Course.
Szczepanik
was visiting the Mill Creek Plantation when he noticed what appeared to be a
doll face down in the pool. He discovered it was an 18-month-old girl and used
CPR to revive the girl.
The
Certificate of Merit is the highest award given by the American Red Cross to an
individual or group who saves or sustains a life using skills and knowledge
learned in an Red Cross course.
The
award certificate bears the signature of president, who is the honorary
chairman of the American Red Cross and the signature of the chairman of the
American Red Cross.
The
ceremony takes place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bluffton Town Hall.
