For the first time in over six years, the voucher waiting list for Section 8 housing will open Wednesday in Savannah.
Savannah residents won't have to wait in any lines now because the Housing Authority of Savannah will accept electronic applications starting at 10 a.m. on Jan. 9 until 5 p.m. on Jan. 23.
"Taking applications online greatly simplifies the process," said Housing Authority Executive Director Earline W. Davis in a news release. "There will be no waiting in line, nothing to return by mail - just the click of a few buttons."
Persons interested in applying for rental assistance must be 18 years of age or older and must be a U.S. citizen or have legal immigration status. A criminal background check will be done on all adult applicants.
The Housing Authority's Neighborhood Resource Center and others with public access computers will be open and ready to help those who need assistance.
The application can only be submitted online by visiting the Housing Authority of Savannah website at www.savannahpha.com and clicking on Voucher Application.
