Police search for vehicle theft suspect in Garden City

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah Chatham Metro police were called out on a report of a shooting and armed robbery early Wednesday morning.

A Garden City investigator told WTOC that a call went out in Savannah shortly after 7:30 a.m. for a possible shooting and armed robbery. Somehow two 911 calls got mixed up together, leading police to believe it was an isolated incident when it was really two different situations.

Metro and Garden City police began to follow a truck that they believed had been involved in the robbery and it ended up being stolen. The truck was a champagne colored GMC Sierra reported stolen out of Garden City.

Upon learning of the stolen pickup truck, officers then began to chase the suspect who drove to the area around Third and Fourth streets in Garden City, jumped out and ran. K-9 units were brought out to help in the search, but the suspect wasn't found. He is described as a black male with short, twisty ear-length dreadlocks. He was wearing a jacket with a camoflauge print.

Police said there was no shooting involved in the truck theft and no reports of any injuries. But the suspect is still on the loose.

WTOC is still working to confirm the possible armed robbery report that went out around the same time.
