SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A man arrested on murder charges was indicted Wednesday by a Chatham County grand jury.

Shan Demetrius Cheley, 36, was indicted on malice murder charges in connection with the death of 18-year-old Amber DeLoach. He is also charged with aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance and arson.

DeLoach was found on Sept. 30 in a burning car in Yamacraw Village. She was strangled and raped, according to the indictment.

Cheley has been detained since Oct. 4 in the Chatham County Detention Center on charges of contempt of court and cocaine possession.

Investigators said Cheley and DeLoach had met each other the night before her body was found.
