BAXLEY, GA (WTOC) -
An Appling County woman was given a few hours to spend with her children before she turned over custody to their father. When she didn't, investigators began a search for her on kidnapping warrants.
Investigator Jason Carter tells WTOC a judge awarded custody of Autumn, 9, and James David Moon, 7, to their father, Jeremy Moon in a hearing on Tuesday. Patricia Michelle Moon was given until 8 p.m. that evening to surrender the children to Jeremy Moon at the Appling County Sheriff's Office.
"When 8 o'clock came, he was here. He waited a half hour to an hour, then notified us that she wasn't here," Carter explained.
Carter said they believed Michelle Moon fled with her children to the Charleston, SC area. She was last seen driving a pearl white, 2008, Pontiac G6 with a South Carolina tag HWP 722.
According to the Chatham Emergency Management Agency, the children were believed to be in extreme danger.
The mother and children were found around 7:30 p.m. in the mother's Stinson Dr. residence in Charleston, SC. Autumn and James David Moon were found safe and police have taken Patricia Michelle Moon into custody.
According to the Appling County Sheriff's Office, the children will be turned over to the father Wednesday night. Extradition will be decided Thursday when Patricia Michelle Moon appears before a judge. She is facing kidnapping charges.
