Police are still looking for a hit-and-run driver that struck a 3 year old on New Years Eve on Ga. 21 near Goshen Rd.

Laperia Mydell, 23, of Rincon, was arrested and charged with cruelty to children,

Investigators say the mother left her 3-year-old child, Jordan Mydell, in an apartment alone while she went shopping at a nearby gas station. The toddler was able to leave the apartment and run across Ga. 21 near Goshen Rd., where he was stuck by a vehicle traveling northbound, which left the scene.

"He got out of the apartment, unhinged the gate, and started running down the sidewalk after his mother. He wanted his mom. He was scared and alone," neighbor DeeDee Miller said.

Miller says her husband saw the entire event from their balcony. She says he tried yelling out to the boy, but it was too late. He says he heard two thuds, and the boy was hit.

According to investigators, the 3 year old is out of the hospital and in a foster home. His mother posted a $20,000 bond and is out of jail.
