St. Helena brothers arrested on drug, gun charges

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Members of the Beaufort Co. Sheriff's Office Drug Investigations Section arrested two St. Helena men on various drug and weapons charges on Jan. 11.

In December of 2012, authorities initiated a drug investigation in reference to Melvin Holmes and his brother Ahmad Holmes selling illegal drugs in the St. Helena area of Beaufort County. Police also found out that illegal drugs were being stored at the Holmes' residence on Seaside Rd. on St. Helena Island.

During the investigation, authorities conducted controlled purchases of illegal drugs from both Melvin and Ahmad Holmes, which resulted in a search warrant being obtained for the residence.

The search warrant was executed on Jan. 11 and contact was made with four adults and one small child. Police found a small quantity of marijuana on Ahmad Holmes. Larger quantities of crack cocaine and powder cocaine, and a handgun were found on Melvin Holmes. Authorities identified the handgun as being previously reported stolen from the Burton area of Beaufort County.

Melvin and Ahmad Holmes were arrested and the remaining subjects were released without charges. According to authorities, Melvin and Ahmad Holmes may face additional charges.
