Chatham Co. may add new requirements to animal ordinances

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Chatham County is looking to add new requirements to its animal ordinances for responsible pet ownership, including all animals must be microchipped, spayed and neutered. The first reading of the law is already drawing heavy criticism.

"It is going to be a difficult ordinance to enforce within its own merits but when you have conflicting ordinances between the city and county, it will be even more difficult," said Helen Stone, Chatham Co. Commission.

Another issues is the law would not effect unincorporated Chatham County. A second reading is scheduled next month.
