Savannah man charged in multiple robberies

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A coordinated effort by the FBI, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police, Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team and the Georgia State Patrol has led to a Savannah man being charged for the robberies of three banks, a credit union and two businesses. Investigators compiled the charges by comparing the robberies.

Rico Lavon Edwards, 30, of the 3700 block of Ogeechee Rd., was arrested around 11 p.m. Thursday in Richmond Hill.

Edwards has been charged with the robberies of the Savannah Postal Credit Union on Oglethorpe Blvd. on Nov. 11, Barnett Education Supply on West DeRenne Ave. on Nov. 19, The Baby Shop on Paulsen St. on Nov. 19, The Heritage Bank in the 600 block of Stephenson Ave. on Nov. 20, First Chatham Bank on Hodgson Memorial Dr. on Dec. 18 and Colony Bank on Hodgson Memorial on Jan. 3.

Information from the public helped lead the investigation to Edwards, who has a history of arrests by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department.

Detectives from Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Robbery Division are continuing to investigate the robberies and attempting to determine if anyone else was involved.
