JEFF DAVIS CO., GA (WTOC) -
A man wanted on charges in Chatham County is arrested
in Jeff Davis County.
Jeff Davis County deputies responded to a theft
investigation on Smith Street in Denton to speak with Marcus Ashley Graham.
Graham was talking to deputies but then ran, according
to the sheriff's office . He was spotted a few minutes into the search, by a resident
walking near Williams Drive in Denton. Deputies were notified and he was taken
into custody.
After Graham was secured at the Jeff Davis County Detention
Center, deputies discovered he left behind evidence in the back seat of a
patrol car. A red pack of cigarettes, a smoking device and a small ziptop bag
with suspected marijuana were found, according to the sheriff's office.
Graham later told Jeff Davis County investigator Jamie
Taylor the reason he ran was because there was an active warrant out on him out
of Port Wentworth.
Graham had been on the run since October from Port Wentworth
police, according to the sheriff's office.
He is being held in the Jeff Davis County Detention Center
on charges of obstructing a law enforcement officer, possession of a drug
related object and possession of marijuana.
Graham will appear before the Jeff Davis County
magistrate judge in a bond hearing and will await extradition to Chatham County
to answer charges of contempt of state court.
