Three new hotels, a new restaurant and possibly a new arena could be in the works for River Street.
Wednesday night on the news, WTOC reported on plans in the early stages for three hotels - two on the west end of River Street and one on the east end. The development will help fill out the lower pedestrian traffic areas of River Street. The riverwalk extension and Savannah River landings are one of four possible sites for the proposed new arena. Visit Savannah President Joe Marinelli said River Street could look very different in the near future.
"I think the future of River Street is very uncertain and I don't mean that in a negative way. I think the future is going to be interesting to what River Street really looks like [in] five years, but more importantly 10 years from now. I think it will be fascinating," Marinelli said.
Joe's Crab House is already close to completion. It will be the first new free-standing building in a long time. They are expected to open later this spring.
