Jacob G. Smith Elementary students compete in spelling bee

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Students at Jacob G. Smith Elementary took part in a spelling bee Friday morning.

Students spelled hundreds of words called by WTOC's Sonny Dixon before a panel of distinguished judges, including Alderman John Hall.

Fifth grader Austin Singleton was the winner, Zachary Brannen finished a strong second, and Princess Empel placed third.

Austin will go on the district spelling bee in February.
