Long county fire displaces soldier and expecting wife


A Long county soldier and his expecting wife are now without a home.

The mother was due on Sunday, a day after the American Red Cross says an air conditioning unit burned their mobile home in Ludowici.

The 23 year old Fort Stewart soldier, his wife, who is 9 months pregnant and their four year old son had to evacuate the house.

The soldier was treated by emt's after inhaling large amounts of smoke. Now they are hoping to find a home before they have their child.

"He was holding his face like it was bad," said Neighbor Joseph Shouse. "It was a tragic. It was bad. It was so bad you couldn't explain how something this bad could happen to these people."

The American Red Cross is providing the family with temporary shelter, food and clothing, until emergency housing can be provided on post. if you would like to donate contact the Red cross.
