SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Police say a woman was found fatally shot Monday night at an apartment complex in Savannah.
It happened at about 7 p.m. at the Colonial Village apartment complex on White Bluff Road.
"When officers arrived they found a female who had been shot in a car. She had expired on the scene," SCMPD spokesman Julian Miller said.
Police said the victim was identified as 21-year-old Rebecca Foley. Her boss said Foley was a student at Savannah State University.
SCMPD's Miller says it appears the car was moving when Foley was shot.
Police surrounded a red VW Bug with police tape in the complex parking lot. Foley's body was found about 100 feet away from that vehicle. Police are still trying to determine how she got there.
Neighbors say it is mostly Armstrong Atlantic students living in the complex and that it's usually a quiet area.
"I was doing school work on the computer, I'm right next to the window and I hear a pop, looked out my window and didn't see anything interesting. Then about a couple of minutes later, I saw a bunch of police cars and ambulances and then decided to come out and see what the ruckus was," neighbor Alex Merkler said.
The complex has been swarming with officers since the shooting occurred and the mobile command center was brought out to help assist in the investigation.
Neighbors say they may be doing things a little differently now.
"I am a little bit worried now. Just figured I might take some defense classes or something, get a taser, pepper spray, something like that," stated Merkler.
The shooting remains under investigation.
Local businessman O.C. Welch put up a $1,000 reward for any information that helps lead to an arrest in the case.
