Tigers split with BC

Posted: Updated:

SAVANNAH, GA - The Savannah State Tigers met Bethune-Cookman in a basketball doubleheader Monay night at Tiger Arena and came away with a split.

Chastity Rene Taylor had 19 points to lead the Lady Wildcats to a 50-41 victory as the Lady Tigers fell to 6-13 for the season and 1-5 in the MEAC.  SSU shot just 27% from the floor in the game.

But, in the men's game, the Tigers prevailed 43-40 over the Wildcats despite an apparent mistake by the referees.  With SSU leading by 3 in the final minute, the Wildcats failed to hit the iron on a shot and the shot clock ran out during the scramble for the rebound.  However, the referees missed the sound of the horn and allowed a basket and foul that could have tied the game.  Even after watching replays, the referees didn't change the call but the free throw to tie the game was missed and the Tigers held on to win.  Arnold Louis led the Tigers with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the game.
