A person walking on the 18th Street beach Tuesday morning discovered a coyote shot dead on Tybee Island.
Tybee Police Chief Robert Bryson said a gunshot was heard at about 2 a.m. But they aren't if the coyote was shot then or in another area and put there.
He said it is illegal to discharge a firearm within city limits. He said the case is closed, and that they're not trying to find the shooter.
The coyote will be buried at the Department of Public Works yard, behind the station.
He said that last week, they received report that someone shot another coyote in the marsh area around Horse Pin Point. But they haven't found the coyote.
Bryson said he thinks there still are coyotes left on the island.
