The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that took place early Saturday morning on the south end of Hilton Head Island.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the area of Treetops apartments in reference to an armed robbery just before 2 a.m. Deputies met with a 31-year-old male victim upon arrival. He told police that he had just been robbed by an unknown black male.

The victim reported seeing the suspect who robbed him at the Kangaroo Express convenience store prior to the robbery. According to the victim, the suspect approached him and tried to convince him to go with him to Cordillo Courts to "meet some girls." The victim then declined, got into his car and began driving home.

While the victim was driving, he noticed a vehicle following closely behind him. The victim decided to pull onto Lemoyne Dr. and stop. After getting out of his car, the victim was approached by the same black male suspect he saw at the store. The suspect, armed with a tire iron, frisked the victim and took the victim's wallet.

The suspect then took the cash from the victim's wallet while pointing a pistol at the victim's head. The suspect gave the empty wallet back to the victim, got into a small, black pickup truck, and drove away. The victim was left unharmed during the incident.

Investigators have identified the suspect at Dwan Valentino Doe, 41, and warrants have been obtained for armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Valentino's whereabouts are currently unknown.

Anyone with information is asked to contact either Investigator Cpl. J. Moran at 843.255.3422 or Crimestoppers at 1.888.CRIME.SC.
