Felons face new charges in Liberty County

More charges out of Liberty County are filed against two felons who were arrested Sunday night after a chase, three crashes and then a foot chase on the south side and a woman who let them use a pickup truck.  

Derrick Andre McDaniel, 29, of Garden City, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving a stolen firearm, obstruction by fleeing, loitering and prowling, reckless driving, hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license.

McDaniel is charged in Liberty County with speeding, failure to maintain lane, failure to obey a traffic device or sign, obstruction, hindering a law enforcement officer, attempt to elude, aggressive driving, passing on the right and reckless driving.

Jawyann Porchei Pringle, 29, of Savannah, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony obstruction and faces a previously issued warrant by the Chatham County Sheriff's Office for conspiracy to commit a crime. He's charged in Liberty County with obstruction and fleeing to elude.

They were captured by officers at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday from several off of Hopeland Drive in the Windsor Forest neighborhood.

McDaniel and Pringle remain in jail. They made their first appearance in court on Tuesday and were denied bond. Their next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 30.

The Chevrolet pickup truck owner Shona S. Lewis, of Garden City, is charged with permitting a driver to violate state law.

McDaniel was driving the pickup truck and Pringle was the passenger, according Savannah-Chatham Metro Police. Liberty County sheriff's deputies and a Midway police chased them on Interstate 95. McDaniel collided with another vehicle at US 17 and Highway 204 and then hit a SCMPD car at Science Drive and Abercorn Street.

The SCMPD officers were headed to Apachee Drive and Abercorn to clear traffic for the oncoming chase when their car hit by the pickup, according to police. The pickup went out of control and overturned several times on the lawn of Armstrong Atlantic State University.

McDaniel and Pringle ran across the campus and through a fence to the Windsor Forest neighborhood, according to SCMPD. Pringle was arrested by Liberty County, Armstrong Atlantic and SCMPD police officers after being tazed by a Liberty County deputy. McDaniel was taken into custody by a SCMPD officer.

Police found cell phones, drug-related items, cash and two handguns near or in the pickup - one of which had been reported stolen in 2011, according to police.

Two SCMPD officers in the cruiser that was struck were transported to a hospital for treatment. They were treated and released.

The investigation is ongoing. More charges may be added.
