The swim advisory for Polk Street Beach on Tybee Island has been lifted by the Chatham County Health Department. The advisory area covered the northern most part of Tybee Island at the mouth of the Savannah River from the end of the beach to the jetty.
Officials issued the advisory on Jan. 16, 2013 after routine water quality tests showed a high level of enterococci bacteria, which increase the risk of gastrointestinal illness in swimmers.
The advisory was lifted Wednesday after water samples showed that the bacteria levels had dropped below Environmental Protection Agency's recommended limits.
