METTER, GA (WTOC) -

A man was arrested Jan. 19 and charged in connection with stabbing.

Police were called at about 7 p.m. to a home on Ellis Street. A 45-year-old man had been stabbed in the back.  He was airlifted to a Savannah hospital in critical condition. He has since been treated and released.

Within minutes of the stabbing, Officer Brandon McGahee and Candler County Deputy Sheriff Bryson Collins found and arrested Willie James Peterson several houses away from where the stabbing occurred.

Peterson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to children.

According to Metter Police Chief Dennis Nelson, Peterson was charged with cruelty to children because children were present during the incident. He says both the victim and the offender know each other.

More charges are possible.
