Subway restaurants raise money for local charities

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Subway restaurants in Bulloch County fed even more people than usual Friday. Each location in Statesboro and Brooklet hosted a local charity to put their volunteers, like Georgia South University football players and coach Jeff Monken, behind the counter. All the proceeds during lunch goes to that charity. It helps organizations like the Humane Society, United Way and others.

"It is just very nice that we all get to participate in this. I have never heard of another company that does this around here or anywhere. It is a great thing that Subway opens up and does this like they do," said Tinker Lanier, Ogeechee Area Hospice.

They are still crunching numbers to see how much each raised but Ogeechee Hospice finished first last year with just over $4,000.
