On Monday, several Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools will be participating in the sixth annual Dollars for Disasters Week to help local disaster victims.
The funds raised benefit the Southeast Georgia American Red Cross (Savannah). The campaign runs until Feb. 1. Each year students who participate set a goal to give $1 during the week.
One class from each participating school that raises the most money will win a pizza party from Domino's.
able to give back and do something makes you feel more powerful. It is a great
opportunity for children, especially those who have encountered it or know
someone close who has encountered it, to kind of give back," said Robin Wingate,
Red Cross executive director.
Dollars for Disaster Week will kick off at 11 a.m. at West Chatham Middle School, which is the three-time overall winner. Two other schools Islands High School and Hesse K-8 raised the most funds for their category.
Last year, Dollars for Disasters Week raised more than $16,000, according to the Red Cross.
