Lowcountry residents may qualify for free tax preps

If you are ready to start filing your taxes in the Lowcountry, you may be able to qualify for certain tax credits. 

Some Beaufort and Jasper County residents could qualify for free income tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Program.

With certain tax credits, individuals and families can qualify for an extra $450 to more than $5600. 

Below is a list of Volunteer Income Tax Program, VITA, sites:

  • United Way/Ridgeland – Wednesdays – 1pm-7pm
  • Beaufort Library – Mondays – 10:30am-4pm & Thursdays 1:30pm-7pm
  • CBC Bank in Port Royal – Thursdays – 9am-12pm
  • Piggly Wiggly on Boundary Street – Fridays – 9am-3pm
  • SCB&T on Boundary Street – Tuesdays – 9am-2pm
  • Hilton Head Recreation Center – Thursdays – 6pm-9pm
  • USCB Bluffton campus – Saturdays – 11am-2pm
  • St. Helena Library – Mondays – 5pm-7:30pm
  • Goodwill in Bluffton – Thursdays (starting Jan. 31) 4pm-8pm
  • Lobeco Library – Saturdays (starting Feb. 2) 11am-2pm
  • Bluffton Library – Mondays (starting Feb. 4) 2pm-7pm
  • Franciscan Center on St. Helena Island – Tuesdays (starting Feb. 5) 3pm-6pm

Tax preparers and VITA volunteers are IRS-trained and certified.
