Woman injured in rollover crash

A Claxton woman was injured in a wreck Monday morning and was taken to a Savannah hospital for treatment.

It happened at about 7:15 a.m. Monday at US 301 just south of Interstate 16.

Three cars were driving southbound, two were in the left lane and one was in the right lane, when the car in front tried to make a left-hand turn, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The car driven by Elecia Tatum-Anderson, of Claxton, was in the left lane tried to speed around the car, but didn't realize that a driver was in the right lane next to her, according to the GSP.

The rear right bumper hit the front left bumper of the car in the right hand lane, causing the driver to spin out, over-correct and hit a pine tree.

GSP said Anderson, the driver at fault, was taken by helicopter to Memorial University Medical Center with hip injuries. She is in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation by GSP. Citations are pending.
