A Savannah-Chatham police officer got a lot more than he bargained for early today during what was supposed to be a routine traffic stop.

The officer pulled over a pickup truck at West Bay and Ferrill Streets about 4am, but when the officer approached the truck, the driver got out, threw a large pocket knife at the officer and said, "I'm bullet proof, you might as well shoot me now."

The officer called for back-up and had to use pepper spray when the truck driver began fighting with him.

The man had to be treated by EMTs for minor injuries. He tells police his name is Robert Comer.

This morning, comer is headed to the Chatham County jail, facing a variety of serious charges including assaulting a police officer.
