The Bomber Girls are making sure our soldiers overseas feel loved this Valentine's Day. Volunteers gathered Monday evening to help the Bomber Girls Ladies Riding Club sort, pack, label and mail more than 300 flat rate boxes of home baked cookies to deployed troops on their mailing list.
5,885 dozen cookies were collected Sunday at their annual Fire Up Your Ovens and Show Our Troops Some Lovin' Cookie Drive. Last year, they collected 3,800 dozen cookies.
"Some of the soldiers we know personally, some we just got the names from friends of friends or people we meet in the street. Just for them to be able to celebrate Valentine's Day over there with cookies is pretty awesome," said Cindy Hashaw, Bomber Girls LRC, Inc. president.
They're accepting donations to help with the more than $5,000 it will cost to mail the boxes out. For more information, visit http://www.bombergirlslrc.com/.
