Lawsuit over abandoned Port Royal railroad settled
PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) -
A class-action lawsuit over an abandoned rail line in Port Royal has reached a settlement.
260 property owners filed the suit saying the easements should have been returned to them when the rail line was abandoned. Instead, the State Ports Authority sold the property rights to the Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority.
Property owners will get payments ranging from $5,000 to $1 million.
