City council may amend digital billboards ordinance
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Savannah City Council will consider amending the city's ordinance for digital billboards. The Metropolitan Planning Commission voted to recommend the change a meeting Tuesday.
The commission agreed to add language that essentially levels the playing field for outdoor advertisers. Under the current rules, a company that wants to put up a digital billboard must first remove some of its signs that don't conform to current zoning laws.
The additional language would allow an exception for companies that don't actually own non-conforming signs and therefore don't have any signs to remove.
Tuesday's change will allow those companies to begin competing in the digital billboard market.
The proposal will now go to city council for final approval.
