BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -
Authorities in Bulloch County have located a teen that was reported missing by his family in December 2011.
The family of Dalen Smith, then age 16, reported that he went missing from the family's residence on Baygall Rd. on Dec. 23, 2011. Although the circumstances indicated that he was a runaway, the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into Smith's disappearance, which lasted several months.
With help from social media, news outlets, and assistance from the National Center for Exploited Children, a tip was received stating that Smith was living in Marion, Ohio under an assumed name.
The lead investigator on the case, Dusty Williams, was able to obtain a photo of Smith from a new Facebook page he had created and confirmed that it was Smith.
In conjunction with the Marion Police Dept., Smith was contacted and police were able to verify his safety.
