BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

Bluffton native Tabor Vaux won the Republican nomination for the vacant Beaufort County Council District 9 seat in Tuesday's primary.

Vaux Bested his opponent Mark Lawson by 233 votes.

He says he's ready to get right to work so he can show the voters that they made the right choice.

One of the first things he's going to do once he's sworn in as the new councilman is sit down with Lawson so the two of them can discuss some of the issues Lawson brought up during the election.

"I'd like to talk with him about some of the issues he brought," Vaux sad. "He's a good guy and had some good ideas."

Vaux also said he's looking forward to working with other council members in hopes of getting the newer generation involved.

"I really want to bridge the gap," Vaux said.

The council seat Vaux won was held by Weston Newton for more than a decade. Newton left the council to join the South Carolina House of Representatives.
