WAYNESBORO, GA (WFXG) -
Waynesboro Police Chief Alfonzo
Williams says a 12-year-old girl was forced inside a house at the intersection
of Waters and 9th Street and raped.
Williams described the alleged attack
as horrific.
Williams says on Friday the
12-year-old knocked on the door of the house because she was looking for her
friend. Police say her friend wasn't there but Thomas Stokes Junior was.
"The door was answered by 44-year-old
Thomas Stokes Junior who pulled her inside the house and had sexual intercourse
with her against her will," Williams, said.
Williams says Stokes also slapped the
girl repeatedly and told her if she told anyone about the attack he would kill
her and her family.
But she did come forward and Williams
said Stokes is facing serious charges, "He has been charged with rape,
aggravated child molestation and kidnapping."
Williams says Stokes was at the house
to dog sit for a relative who is also a city council member.
Williams says the council woman owns
the house but lives next door and usually keeps her dogs in the house where
police say the young girl was viciously attacked.
The victim's family tells us the girl is doing well and
she is making a good recovery.
Williams says Stokes was recently released from jail; he
spent more than a dozen years in jail for armed robbery.
