Daufuskie Island proposes helipad

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

The Daufuskie Island Fire District is looking for approval from Beaufort County to build a helicopter landing pad near the main fire station Haig Point Road.

The Island Packet reports that the proposal means trees and other growth in the area would be removed.

Beaufort County Planning Director Anthony Criscitello said they want an area near the fire station in case they need to make a medical evacuation. Right now, it's not clear who owns the land.
