HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -
The U.S. Dept. of
Defense announced Thursday the deployment of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat
Team to Afghanistan.
In February, the Vanguard Brigade is scheduled
to depart from their home station for a nine-month deployment as
part of the International Security and Assistance Force under the command of
Regional Command – East.
About 2,200 soldiers will
provide support and train the Afghan National Security Forces, according to the
Fort Stewart Public Affairs Office.
The unit has been training
for this mission since July. It included a month-long mission readiness
exercise at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La. in November, according
to the Fort Stewart Public Affairs Office.
The team was deployed to
Iraq from July 2010 to July 2011. During that mission, they strengthened Iraqi
Security Forces and transitioned missions and facilities in the Al Anbar
Province to the Iraqi government.
